• Note generali: The Penetráveis are spectacular room installations created by the Brazilian artist Hélio Oiticica in the 1960s and '70s. They are experimental spaces that are only activated when used. Oiticica thus invented a format that continues to offer new potential for artistic interventions to this day. How does a Penetrável differ from other temporary exhibition formats? What challenges does it pose to curators? The first part of the book revolves around the political and artistic requisites for the Penetráveis. Part 2 explores the possibilities they offer today – based on the performance and film programme that took place as part of the Hélio Oiticica retrospective staged by the MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst Frankfurt am Main.Contributions by Daniel Birnbaum, Jochen Volz, Christoph Menke, Peter Gorschlüter, and others.

• Sommario/riassunto: Die Penetráveis sind spektakuläre Rauminstallationen, die der brasilianische Künstler Hélio Oiticica in den 1960er und 1970er Jahren entwickelte. Sie sind Orte des Ausprobierens und werden erst durch Benutzung aktiviert. Oiticica hat damit ein Format erfunden, das bis heute immer neue Möglichkeiten für künstlerische Interventionen bietet. Was unterscheidet ein Penetrável von anderen temporären Ausstellungsformaten? Worin liegen seine kuratorischen Herausforderungen? Im ersten Teil des Buches geht es um die politischen und künstlerischen Voraussetzungen der Penetráveis.
