Sommario/riassunto: Translation studies has become an (inter)discipline but under which conditions? This paper deals with the necessity for the creation and development of socio-translation studies. Three main elements are presented: the need for the self-analysis of scholars, the need for a historiography of the field, and the need for an analysis of institutions and publications which shape and identify the discipline.
