• Sommario/riassunto: The new digital technologies can change the ways we interact with our patients and the treatments we provide. This chapter discusses the ethical, clinical, legal, and practical aspects of such technologies as email, videoconferencing, teletherapy, Internet therapy videophone, Twitter, and Facebook, especially in the age of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). It examines not only the new opportunities (e.g., providing therapy to someone in another state or province) but also the risks (e.g., especially in the area of privacy, confidentiality, and breaches of clinical data) and responsibilities (e.g., licensing requirements when therapy is offered in another state or province). Digital technologies also provide the opportunity to make information about psychological tests—including the test items themselves and scoring guides—widely available to anyone who can access the Internet. The chapter provides a set of specific questions to address when using computers, Web sites, videocams, and other digital media in clinical or forensic work.
