Sommario/riassunto: Focusing on six popular British girls' periodicals, Moruzi explores the debate about the shifting nature of Victorian girlhood between 1851 and 1915. Moruzi's analyses of competing discourses within girls' periodicals demonstrate how these publications were able to frame feminine behaviour in ways that embraced the changing role of girls in nineteenth-century society while also attempting to maintain traditional feminine ideals of virtue and purity.
