• Sommario/riassunto: Kern van deze sectorschets is een analyse van de toezichttheorie van de Inspectie voor de gezondheidszorg (IGZ) in de afgelopen tien jaar. De analyse resulteert in acht spanningsvelden die optreden bij de praktische toepassingen van deze theorie. Hierbij is gekeken naar het verleden en de toekomst van het overheidstoezicht door de IGZ als één van de actoren binnen de complexe sturingsrelaties in de gezondheidszorg. Thema's die aan bod komen bij de ontwikkeling van het toezicht zijn: de plaats en functie van toezicht in de gezondheidszorg, de wettelijke grondslag, de internationale dimensie van toezicht en de invloed van marktwerking en patiëntveiligheid op het toezicht. De keuzen die in de praktijk van het toezicht gemaakt worden binnen de spanningsvelden en de wijze waarop deze doorwerken, zijn van grote invloed op de reputatie van de inspectie. De sectorschets wordt afgesloten met een toekomstagenda, waarin de positionering van de IGZ en innovatie van het toezicht bepalend zijn voor duurzaam en dynamisch overheidstoezicht op de gezondheidszorg. De serie WRR-webpublicaties omvat studies die in het kader van de werkzaamheden van de WRR tot stand zijn gekomen. De verantwoordelijkheid voor de inhoud en de ingenomen standpunten berust bij de auteurs.; The core of this sector sketch is an analysis of the supervisory theory of the Health Care Inspectorate (IGZ) over the past ten years. The analysis results in eight fields of tension that occur in the practical applications of this theory. The past and future of government supervision by the IGZ were considered as one of the actors in the complex management relationships in health care. Themes that are addressed in the development of supervision are: the place and function of supervision in health care, the legal basis, the international dimension of supervision and the influence of market forces and patient safety on supervision. The choices made in the practice of supervision within the areas of tension and the way in which they work have a major influence on the reputation of the inspection. The sector sketch is concluded with a future agenda, in which the positioning of the IGZ and innovation of supervision are decisive for sustainable and dynamic government supervision of health care. The series of WRR web publications includes studies that have been produced as part of the work of the WRR. The responsibility for the content and the positions taken rests with the authors.
