Type File/ Data Note: Thin wood veneer that has a look of a fabric and is as soft and flexible as leather. The material is composed of 65% wood that is backed with 35% cotton using polyurethane (PU) glue. The suppleness of the material comes from the scoring of the wood surface using a laser. Different geometric patterns including lines, triangles and squares are delicately engraved onto the wood, giving it exceptional flexibility. Unlike traditional wood veneer, the unique feel of this material provides new areas of application, such as the soft goods industry. Conventional textile cutting and sewing methods can be used to work with this wood fabric. Unlike other fabric coatings or tanning processes, the manufacturing of this material does not involve any harmful chemicals such as sulfides, ammonia, chromium and chloride sulfates. It is a dry process and is not energy-intensive. 1,000 m (1093.6 yards) of material can be produced using 10 kW (13.4 HP) in one month. The material is sold in sheets with a maximum size of 120 x 180 cm (47 x 71 in). The thickness of the sheets can range from 0.2 to 1.2 mm (7.8 to 47 mils). A variety of color options are available including natural wood, brown and white, and dyed wood that comes in over ten different colors. There are a number of custom options available for the material. It can be gilded, woven, inlaid, pierced, printed and engraved. Wood used in this material is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified. Applications include footwear, bags, upholstery, interiors, packaging, fashion, automotive, decorative items and accessories.
