Sommario/riassunto: It is our pleasure to welcome you to dg.o 2007, The Eighth Annual International Conference on Digital Government Research. Dg.o is unique in its ability to bring together computer and social science researchers, government officials and representatives of industry to investigate how information and communication technologies can be used to make government information, processes and services better and more conveniently and securely available to all stakeholders. The conference has grown considerably since its inception in 1999 -- when it began as a meeting of researchers holding U. S. National Science Foundation grants in a new Digital Government Program. Dg.o has grown into a truly international conference attracting participants worldwide. The conference program has continued to evolve; two years ago research workshops and tutorials were successful introduced. This year's workshops and tutorials, which focus on a number of topics of shared interest to digital government researchers in different countries, are now available to all conference registrants at no additional charge. Especially important among these sessions is a new workshop specially designed for doctoral students working on topics related to Digital Government. Perhaps the biggest change this year is the conference sponsorship by the newly formed Digital Government Society of North America. Society President Sharon Dawes sets the tone for this important change in her welcome letter to you. In addition this year, we have initiated a Best Research Paper award (to be announced at the final plenary session on Wednesday morning!), and a Best Poster or Demo Award to be presented at the invited demo session scheduled for Tuesday.
