| Sommario/riassunto: | For over thirty-five years, Robert L. B. Tobin of San Antonio, Texas, has collected the scene and costume design renderings of various theatre artists. One of Mr. Tobin's goals in building his collection is that it be used by as many people as possible, from beginning theatre students to theatre history researchers. As the art of scene design and the interest in the history of scene design has developed, a problem has developed in that theatre history researchers have difficulty in locating the works of designers in various public and private collections of theatre materials. A descriptive catalog of a collection would make the job of the researcher easier, giving him a means to quickly find the pieces he needs. It is the purpose of the dissertation to catalog a segment of the Tobin Collection of Scene Designs, to aid researchers wishing to utilize its holdings, as well as to publicize the collection to a great degree. The segment of the collection to be cataloged in the dissertation is the original scene designs dating from 1900-1940. The catalog will feature a descriptive listing of each piece, along with a biography of each of the designers and a photographic reproduction of each piece. |
