Sommario/riassunto: "It is daunting to think about the fact that, at minimum, 13 million people in the US will need to retreat from coastal areas if we don't adapt our coastal development to respond to sea level rise and increasingly strong storms. The design, policy, and markets that have shaped coastal areas and residents are in desperate need of updating; the coastline is a dynamic place but that's not how current policies treat it. This edited volume brings together experts in design, planning, and policy to provide solutions for coastal adaptation in the U.S. It will inspire innovative and cross-disciplinary thinking about coastal policy at the state and local level while providing actionable, realistic policy and planning options for local governments. Contributors draw on lessons from communities around the US coasts-New York and New Jersey, California, as well as Texas, Louisiana, and Florida"--
