• Sommario/riassunto: This book interrogates eight contemporary American films to determine what role the use of Voodoo in popular representations has played in the construction of black female imaginaries within the United States. It evaluates how filmmakers employ Voodoo aesthetics to reenact black women's spirituality on screen by engaging themes of body politics, expressions of sexuality, agency, self-determination, and cultural appropriation.
