Those who founded and settled the colony were seeking refuge from anti- polygamy laws and sentiments that for almost twenty years had dominated Utah culture and politics. Many in the colony's leadership were the sons of influential members of the church hierarchy, including Abraham Owen Woodruff, son of church president Wilford Woodruff"--
