Type File/ Data Note: | Silver-based antimicrobial coatings that are used to inhibit microbe growth on powder-coated surfaces. They are available in a number of coating formulations, including epoxy, hybrid and polyester. The antimicrobial protection is limited to the coated article and does not protect against disease-causing bacteria, viruses, germs or other disease-causing organisms. Silver ions, which have wide spectrum antimicrobial properties (killing even resistant microbes) providing benefits over alcohol-, chlorine-, or ammonium-based antimicrobials; it interferes with the cell membranes of the bacteria to inhibit respiration and growth, killing the cells. The silver structure causes a controlled release of silver ions embedded within a special silver-containing zeolite. It complies with FDA guidelines under the Federal Code of Regulations, Title 21, Section 175.300; Resinous and polymeric Coatings › NSF/ANSI Standard 51 for food equipment materials. Applications include coating for surfaces at hospitals, public transit, restaurants, park and playground structures, medical equipment, water treatment plants, food service packaging equipment, pharmaceutical labs, school and child care facilities. |
