It can be found both in everyday communication and in literary texts, and it can fulfil a range of functions - it may be entertaining and comical, it may be used to conceal taboo, and it may influence the way in which the speaker's character is perceived. Moreover, wordplay also reflects on language and communication: it reveals surprising alternative readings, and emphasizes the phonetic similarity of linguistic signs that also points towards relations on the level of content. Wordplay unravels characteristics of literary language in everyday communication and opens up the possibility to analyze literary texts from a linguistic perspective. The first two volumes of the series The Dynamics of Wordplay therefore aim at bringing together contributions from linguistics and literary studies, focusing on theoretical issues such as basic techniques of wordplay, and its relationship to genres and discourse traditions. These issues are complemented by a series of case studies on the use of wordplay in individual authors and specific historical contexts. The contributions offer a fresh look on the multifaceted dynamics of wordplay in different communicative settings. 410 0$aDynamics of wordplay ;$vVolume 1. 606 $aMetalanguage 610 $aLinguistic Innovation. 610 $aMetalinguistic Reflection. 610 $aPun. 610 $aWordplay. 615 0$aMetalanguage. 676 $a410 686 $aEC 3660$2rvk 702 $aZirker$b Angelika 702 $aWinter-Froemel$b Esme 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910261101403321 996 $aWordplay and metalinguistic$92288379 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02765oam 2200637I 450 001 9910783948903321 005 20230617000908.0 010 $a1-134-44530-X 010 $a0-203-68766-3 010 $a1-134-44531-8 010 $a1-280-07715-8 010 $a0-203-44874-X 024 7 $a10.4324/9780203448748 035 $a(CKB)1000000000255879 035 $a(EBL)200161 035 $a(OCoLC)56558670 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000312388 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11258328 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000312388 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10332013 035 $a(PQKB)10034503 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC200161 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL200161 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10099010 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL7715 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000255879 100 $a20180706d2004 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 00$aUnion organization and activity /$fedited by John Kelly and Paul Willman 210 1$aLondon ;$aNew York :$cRoutledge,$d2004. 215 $a1 online resource (204 p.) 225 1 $aThe future of trade unions in Britain ;$v2 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 $a0-415-28738-3 311 $a0-415-28739-1 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references (p.
