On the one hand, several scholars share his view that it would be inadequate to generally take at face value the explicit message of texts which were composed in an era in which severe sanctions were imposed on those who entertained deviating views. ?Reading between the lines? therefore seems to be the appropriate hermeneutical approach. On the other hand, the risks of such an interpretative maxim are more than obvious, as it might come up to an unlimited license to ascribe heterodox doctrines to early modern philosophers whose manifest teachings were in harmony with the orthodox positions of their time. The contributions to this volume both address these methodological issues and discuss paradigmatic cases of authors who might indeed be candidates for a Straussian ?reading between the lines?: Hobbes, Spinoza, and Bayle. 410 0$aNew studies in the history and historiography of philosophy. 606 $aPhilosophy, Modern 606 $aMethodology 610 $aHermeneutics. 610 $aatheism. 610 $aearly modern philosophy. 610 $afree thought. 615 0$aPhilosophy, Modern. 615 0$aMethodology. 676 $a181/.06 702 $aSchro?der$b Winfried 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910812431903321 996 $aReading between the lines - Leo Strauss and the history of early modern philosophy$92399927 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01012cam0 2200301 450 001 E600200016350 005 20240619081320.0 010 $a8813260555 100 $a20060223d2006 |||||ita|0103 ba 101 $aita 102 $aIT 200 1 $a<>peculato$fFrancesca Negri, Adriana Piscitello, Barbara Riva 210 $aPadova$cCedam$d2006 215 $aX, 223 p.$d24 cm 225 2 $aLa Biblioteca del penalista$v9 410 1$1001LAEC00016812$12001 $a*La Biblioteca del penalista$v9 700 1$aNegri$b, Francesca$3A600200034913$4070$0324815 702 1$aPiscitello, Adriana$3A600200034914$4070 702 1$aRiva, Barbara$3A600200034915$4070 801 0$aIT$bUNISOB$c20240619$gRICA 850 $aUNISOB 852 $aUNISOB$j340$m128729 912 $aE600200016350 940 $aM 102 Monografia moderna SBN 941 $aM 957 $a340$b005245$gSi$d128729$racquisto$1pomicino$2UNISOB$3UNISOB$420060223113823.0$520240619081320.0$6rovito 996 $aPeculato$91690335 997 $aUNISOB
