Negli ultimi anni, la fiction italiana, infatti, ha trovato nella rappresentazione del passato la sua cifra distintiva. È nelle fiction di ambientazione storica che si sono concentrate le produzioni più prestigiose e spesso di maggior successo. Al contrario, la messa in scena del presente, sebbene quantitativamente maggiore, appare meno incisiva. Dal punto di vista dell'industria televisiva, la stagione 2004-2005 presenta un andamento estremamente positivo.
