Bibliothèque Nationale Supplément Grec. 574 (PGM IV) and analysis of their script, language, and the bilingual spells which they are part of. The magical practices preserved in the PDM and PGM have been published for nearly a century, yet it is only recently that research has focused on investigating the complex relationship between the languages, scripts, and religious traditions they exhibit, as well as the question of who composed, copied, and practiced these spells. Focusing on the bilingual divinations, lust spell, and exorcism of PGM IV, written in the Egyptian and Greek languages - and rendered in Old Coptic scripts and the Greek script respectively - this volume analyses their textual content and ritual mechanics, contextualised among the PDM and PGM, and investigates the potential identities of the magical practitioners of late Roman and Late Antique Egypt. Encompassing the disciplines of Egyptology, Coptology, Papyrology, and Late Antique studies, this volume focuses in particular on the themes of magical practice, bilingualism, script, and the social context of magic in Egypt during the 2nd to 4th centuries CE. 410 0$aZeitschrift fu?r a?gyptische Sprache und Altertumskunde.$pBeiheft ;$vBand 4. 606 $aCoptic language$vTexts 606 $aCoptic language 607 $aEgypt$xReligion 607 $aEgypt$xAntiquities, Roman 607 $aEgypt$2fast 610 $aBilingual. 610 $aGreek. 610 $aOld Coptic. 610 $aSpells. 615 0$aCoptic language 615 0$aCoptic language. 676 $a230.17 686 $aAM 45630$qBVB$2rvk 700 $aLove$b Edward O. Beyond Piety and Politics provides a groundbreaking approach to understanding the depth and variety of political attitudes held by people who consider themselves to be pious Muslims. Using survey data on religious preferences and behavior, the authors argue for the relevance and importance of four outlook categories-Religious Individualist, Social Communitarian, Post-Islamist, and Religious Communitarian-and use these to explore complex and nuanced attitudes of devout Muslims toward issues like democracy and economic distribution. They also reveal how intra-faith variation in political attitudes is not simply doctrinal differences, but also a product of the social aspects of religious association operating within political contexts. By highlighting the dynamic societal and political implications of religious devotion, Beyond Piety and Politics offers a fascinating new theoretical perspective on Islam and politics"--$cProvided by publisher. 606 $aPublic opinion$zArab countries 606 $aPublic opinion$zMiddle East 606 $aPublic opinion$zAfrica, North 606 $aIslam and politics$xPublic opinion 615 0$aPublic opinion 615 0$aPublic opinion 615 0$aPublic opinion 615 0$aIslam and politics$xPublic opinion. 676 $a302.2309174927 700 $aC?iftc?i$b Sabri$01215786 702 $aWuthrich$b F.
