Burleigh Hendrickson details protesters' versions of events to counterbalance more visible narratives that emerged from state-controlled media centers and ultimately describes how the very education systems put in place to serve the French state during the colonial period ended up functioning as the crucible of postcolonial revolt. Hendrickson not only unearths complex connections among activists and their transnational networks across Tunis, Paris, and Dakar but also weaves together their overlapping stories and participation in France's May '68. Using global protest to demonstrate the enduring links between France and its former colonies, Decolonizing 1968 traces the historical relationships between colonialism and 1968 activism, examining transnational networks that emerged and new human and immigrants' rights initiatives that directly followed. As a result, Hendrickson reveals that 1968 is not merely a flashpoint in the history of left-wing protest but a key turning point in the history of decolonization. 517 $aTransnational Student Activism in Tunis, Paris, and Dakar 606 $aStudents$xPolitical activity 606 $aStudent movements 607 $aFrance 607 $aSenegal 607 $aTunisia 610 $aAfrican history 615 0$aStudents$xPolitical activity. 615 0$aStudent movements. 676 $a371.8109611 700 $aHendrickson$b Burleigh J$g(Burleigh Joe),$01279621 712 02$aPenn State University / TOME$4fnd$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/fnd 801 0$bNjHacI 801 1$bNjHacl 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910597897403321 996 $aDecolonizing 1968$93015731 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01486nam a2200325 i 4500 001 991002803009707536 005 20250703125127.0 008 000220s1975 it er 000 0 ita 035 $ab1106271x-39ule_inst 035 $aPARLA169303$9ExL 040 $aDip.to Filosofia$bita 082 0 $a325 100 1 $aCinanni, Paolo$0122078 245 10$aEmigrazione e imperialismo 260 $aRoma :$bEditori riuniti,$c1975 300 $a258 p. ;$c21 cm 490 1 $aVentesimo secolo ;$v35 650 4$aEmigrazione italiana 830 $aVentesimo secolo ;$v35 907 $a.b1106271x$b23-02-17$c28-06-02 912 $a991002803009707536 945 $aLE008 L.L.I.D V A 32$g1$i2008000457471$lle008$o-$pE0.00$q-$rl$s-$t0$u0$v0$w0$x0$y.i10454408$z27-06-02 945 $aLE005IF XII D 30$g2$i2005000081859$lle005$o-$pE0.00$q-$rl$s-$t0$u0$v0$w0$x0$y.i11189149$z28-06-02 945 $aLE005IF XXXVI C 9$g1$iLE005IFA-10427$lle005$o-$pE0.00$q-$rl$s-$t0$u0$v0$w0$x0$y.i11189150$z28-06-02 945 $aLE002 Dir.
