Established in 1960 by Professor Shlomo Simonsohn and scholars from Israel and other countries, the Italia Judaica Project has sponsored documentation and research and organized international conferences, including some as part of the Israeli-Italian cultural agreement. The conference records the success of the project, exploring a broad range of topics related to the culture and history of the Jews in Italy in the Middle Ages and early modern times, such as: Jewish community, economy, literature, medicine and science, and the Arts. This volume contains nineteen of the twenty-seven lectures presented at the conference, including such topics as ?International Trade and Italian Jews at the Turn of the Middle Ages,? ?The Angevins of Naples and the Jews,? and ?Dante and the Literary Identity of Jews in Italy.? The conference was organized by the Goldstein-Goren Diaspora Research Centre at Tel Aviv University, in cooperation with the Fred W. Lessing Institute for European History and Civilization, the Cymbalista Jewish Heritage Centre, the Faculty of Jewish Studies and the Golda and Israel Koschitzky Department of Jewish History at Bar-Ilan University, and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura. 410 0$aBrill's Series in Jewish Studies$v48. 606 $aJews$zItaly$xHistory$vCongresses 607 $aItaly$xEthnic relations$vCongresses 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aJews$xHistory 676 $a305.8924045 701 $aSimonsohn$b Shlomo$f1923-$0265918 701 $aShatzmiller$b Joseph$0459090 712 02$aUniversit?at Tel-Aviv. 712 12$aItalia Judaica Jubilee Conference$f(2010 :$eTel Aviv University),$bcreator. 712 12$aItalia Judaica Jubilee Conference. 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910463010503321 996 $aThe Italia Judaica Jubilee Conference$92082532 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03776oam 2200577I 450 001 9910465504503321 005 20170821172029.0 010 $a1-317-63757-7 010 $a1-315-75890-3 024 7 $a10.4324/9781315758909 035 $a(CKB)3710000000226775 035 $a(EBL)1775361 035 $a(OCoLC)889676570 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001331885 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11794105 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001331885 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)11375956 035 $a(PQKB)10829634 035 $a(OCoLC)891386333 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC1775361 035 $a(OCoLC)897456239 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000000226775 100 $a20180706d2015 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 00$aSouth-east Europe in evolution /$fedited by Hardy Hanappi 210 1$aLondon ;$aNew York :$cRoutledge,$d2015. 215 $a1 online resource (253 p.) 225 1 $aRoutledge studies in the European economy ;$v33 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 $a1-322-09400-4 311 $a0-415-52425-3 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references at the end of each chapters and index. 327 $a""Cover ""; ""Half Title ""; ""Title Page ""; ""Copyright Page ""; ""Table of Contents ""; ""List of figures""; ""List of tables""; ""Notes on contributors""; ""Introduction""; ""Part I Economics""; ""1 Structural evolution of agents: South-eastern Europe - two decades of economic achievements and challenges ahead""; ""2 Commodities and services""; ""3 Education and labor markets""; ""Part II Politics""; ""4 Environment and ecology""; ""5 Military and democracy""; ""6 Embedded in global politics""; ""Part III Culture""; ""7 Religion""; ""8 Gender and generation relations"" 327 $a""9 Organizational forms""""Perspectives""; ""Index"" 330 $a"Recent developments in the global economy, such as the Greek budget crisis, have led to new focus on the role of Europe, and in particular on the countries in Europe's south-eastern region. This new volume from a global set of contributors explores south-east Europe's present and future direction, placing it in the context of the history of the region since the end of the Second World War.Through an exploration of Europe's cultural and political economy, this volume argues that the south-east part of Europe is currently the most crucial component of Europe's future development. The book charts the post-World War Two 'evolution' of the continent, taking in such key turning points as the 1971 breakdown of the fixed exchange rate system, the breakdown of the Soviet Union in the 1990s, and the 2008 global financial collapse. In doing so, the book seeks to explain why and how the current events in south-east Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean can be seen as the weakest points in the wider capitalist system in Europe, and how the issues faced by these regions can provide insight into a possible re-design of European governance. Including a comprehensive editorial introduction, this timely and important book is fully up to date with recent global events, including the 2011 Arab Spring, and provides context and comparison with the countries in the EU.
