It shows how analysing these protests in connection with the structural context of neoliberal urbanism and its crises is more productive than standard explanations. Processes of neoliberalisation have caused deeply segregated urban landscapes defined by deepening social inequality, rising unemployment, racism, securitization of urban spaces and welfare state withdrawal, particularly from poor peripheral areas, where tensions between marginalized youth and police often manifest in public spaces. Challenging a conventional distinction made in research on protest, the book integrates a structural analysis of processes of large scale urban transformation with analyses of the relationship between 'riots' and social movement action in nine countries: France, Greece, England, Germany, Spain, Poland,Denmark, Sweden and Turkey. . 410 0$aPalgrave Studies in European Political Sociology,$x2946-6024 606 $aSociology, Urban 606 $aPolitical sociology 606 $aSocial sciences$xPhilosophy 606 $aSocial structure 606 $aEquality 606 $aHuman geography 606 $aEurope$xPolitics and government 606 $aUrban Sociology 606 $aPolitical Sociology 606 $aSocial Theory 606 $aSocial Structure 606 $aHuman Geography 606 $aEuropean Politics 615 0$aSociology, Urban. 615 0$aPolitical sociology. 615 0$aSocial sciences$xPhilosophy. 615 0$aSocial structure. 615 0$aEquality. 615 0$aHuman geography. 615 0$aEurope$xPolitics and government. 615 14$aUrban Sociology. 615 24$aPolitical Sociology. 615 24$aSocial Theory. 615 24$aSocial Structure. 615 24$aHuman Geography. 615 24$aEuropean Politics. 676 $a307.76 702 $aMayer$b Margit$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aTho?rn$b Catharina$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aTho?rn$b Ha?kan$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910253354603321 996 $aUrban Uprisings$92505506 997 $aUNINA
