Many of these students are first generation - or first in their family to attend university (FIFU). While some progress has been made in responding to the needs of these internationally underserved learners, many challenges remain. This edited book features the unique and diverse experiences of first generation students as they transition into and engage with higher education whilst exploring ways in which universities might better serve these students. With reference to culturally responsive and sustaining research methodologies undertaken in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK and the USA, the contributors critically examine how these students demonstrate resilience within university, and ways in which success and challenges are articulated. Elements that are unique to context and shared across the international higher education milieu are explored. The book is replete with diverse student voices, and compelling implications for practice and future research The studies featured are centred on underlying theories of identity, intersectionality and barrier transcendence while valuing student voices and experiences. Throughout, the emphasis is on using strengths-based indigenous and decolonised methodologies. Through these culturally sustaining approaches, which include critical incident technique, participatory learning and action, talanoa and narrative inquiry, the book explores rich data on first generation student experiences at seven institutions in six countries across four continents."--Bloomsbury Publishing. 410 0$aUnderstanding Student Experiences of Higher Education Ser. 606 $aEduction, Higher$xCross-cultural studies 606 $aFirst-generation college students 606 $2Higher & further education, tertiary education 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aEduction, Higher$xCross-cultural studies. 615 0$aFirst-generation college students. 676 $a378.198 702 $aBell$b Amani 702 $aSantamari?a$b Lorri J. 801 0$bUtOrBLW 801 1$bUtOrBLW 801 2$bUkLoBP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910511736103321 996 $aUnderstanding experiences of first generation university students$92552725 997 $aUNINA LEADER 00988nam a2200277 i 4500 001 991002496619707536 005 20020508201219.0 008 940411s1993 it ||| | ita 020 $a8810402588 035 $ab1101815x-39ule_inst 035 $aPARLA163751$9ExL 040 $aDip.to Scienze dell'Antichità$bita 100 1 $aNorelli, Enrico$0184598 245 10$aDa Gesù a Origene /$ca cura di Enrico Norelli 260 $aBologna :$bEdizioni Dehoniane,$c1993 300 $a423 p. ;$c22 cm 440 3$aLa Bibbia nella storia 440 3$aLa Bibbia nell'antichità cristiana ;$v1 500 $aVol 1 di: La Bibbia nell'antichità cristiana. 630 04$aBibbia 907 $a.b1101815x$b02-04-14$c28-06-02 912 $a991002496619707536 945 $aLE007 220 NOR 01.01$g1$i2015000122735$lle007$o-$pE0.00$q-$rl$s- $t0$u6$v1$w6$x0$y.i11137083$z28-06-02 996 $aDa Gesù a Origene$9862203 997 $aUNISALENTO 998 $ale007$b01-01-94$cm$da $e-$fita$git $h0$i1 LEADER 00986nas 2200349 c 450 001 9910895379803321 005 20260127110453.0 035 $a(CKB)4100000007698512 035 $a(DE-101)1202815154 035 $a(DE-599)ZDB3005283-X 035 $a(DE-599)3005283-X 035 $a(EXLCZ)994100000007698512 100 $a20200114a20179999 |y | 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur||||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aJournal for ethics in social studies$fResearch Center in Social and Humanistic Sciences 210 31$aIasi, Romania$cEditura Lumen$dDecember 2017- 215 $aOnline-Ressource 311 08$a2559-7612 608 $aZeitschrift$2gnd-content 676 $a100 686 $aPHILOS$qDE-12$2fid 801 0$b0012 801 1$bDE-101 801 2$b0012 906 $aJOURNAL 912 $a9910895379803321 996 $aJournal for ethics in social studies$94271642 997 $aUNINA
