This emphasis tends to skew our understanding of the corpus we call psalms and prayers and often dampens or mutes the lived context within which these texts were composed and used. This volume is comprised of a collection of articles that explore the diverse settings in which psalms and prayers were used and circulated in the late Second Temple period. The book includes essays by experts in the Hebrew bible, the Dead Sea scrolls, Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha, and the New Testament, in which a wide variety of topics, approaches, and methods both old and new are utilized to explore the many functions of psalms and prayers in the late Second Temple period. Included in this volume are essays examining how psalms were read as prophecy, as history, as liturgy, and as literature. A variety methodologies are employed, and include the use of cognitive sciences and poetics, linguistic theory, psychology, redaction criticism, and literary theory. 410 0$aBeihefte zur Zeitschrift fu?r die alttestamentliche Wissenschaft ;$vVolume 486. 606 $aPrayer$xJudaism 610 $aPsalm. 610 $aSecond Temple period. 610 $aprayer. 615 0$aPrayer$xJudaism. 676 $a223.206 686 $aBC 7525$qSEPA$2rvk 702 $aPajunen$b Mika S. 702 $aPenner$b Jeremy 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910821129403321 996 $aFunctions of psalms and prayers in the late second temple period$94016139 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01300nas 2200421 a 450 001 9910138814203321 005 20251010011738.0 035 $a(OCoLC)563979759 035 $a(CKB)954928580839 035 $a(DE-599)ZDB1472694-4 035 $a(EXLCZ)99954928580839 100 $a20741122b19701989 uy a 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurbn####aa||a 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacontent 200 10$aPhysical review$hA$iGeneral physics 210 $aNew York, N.Y. $cPublished for the American Physical Society by the American Institute of Physics$d[c1970]-1989 215 $a1 online resource 300 $aTitle from cover. 311 08$aPrint version: Physical review.
