The nature of the measures imposed has also changed: from comprehensive sanctions regimes (discredited since Iraq in the 1990s) to 'targeted' or 'smart' sanctions, directed at specific individuals or entities (through asset freezes and travel bans) or prohibiting particular activities (arms embargoes and export prohibitions). Bringing together scholars, government and private practitioners, Economic Sanctions and International Law provides an overview of recent developments and an analysis of the problems that they have engendered. Chapters examine the contemporary practice of the various actors, and the legality (or otherwise) of their activities. Issues considered include the human rights of persons targeted, and the mechanisms established to challenge their listing; as well as, in cases of sanctions imposed by regional organisations and individual states, the rights of third States and their nationals. The book will be of interest to scholars and practitioners of international law and politics."--Bloomsbury Publishing. 410 0$aStudies in international law (Oxford)$vv 62 606 $aEconomic sanctions 606 $aSanctions (International law) 606 $2International law 615 0$aEconomic sanctions. 615 0$aSanctions (International law) 676 $a341.5/82 686 $a08.16.00.16$2EP-CLASS 702 $aEden$b Paul$f1964- 702 $aHappold$b Matthew 801 0$bUtOrBLW 801 1$bUtOrBLW 801 2$bUkLoBP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910511351803321 996 $aEconomic sanctions and international law$92548470 997 $aUNINA LEADER 00762nam0-2200277 --450 001 9910633399503321 005 20221220102923.0 100 $a20221220d1985----kmuy0itay5050 ba 101 2 $ajpn$aeng 102 $aJP 105 $a 001yy 200 1 $aHans Hollein 210 $aTokyo$cA+U$d1985 215 $a260 p.$cin gran parte ill.$d30 cm 300 $aTesto in giapponese e inglese. 311 $aNumero speciale febbraio 1985 610 0 $aHollein, Hans$aOpere Architettoniche 676 $a720.92$v20 700 1$aHollein,$bHans$037347 801 0$aIT$bUNINA$gREICAT$2UNIMARC 901 $aBK 912 $a9910633399503321 952 $aFONDO ROSSI 2344$bROSSI 2422$fFARBC 959 $aFARBC 996 $aHans Hollein$9321334 997 $aUNINA LEADER 00994nam a22002655i 4500 001 991002195969707536 008 100730s1983 gw | s |||| 0|fre d 020 $a9783540387121 035 $ab14136168-39ule_inst 040 $aBibl. While many have seen the 1970's as simply a period of failures epitomized by Watergate, inflation, the oil crisis, global unrest, and disillusionment with military efforts in Vietnam, Thomas Borstelmann creates a new framework for understanding the period and its legacy. He demonstrates how the 1970's increased social inclusiveness and, at the same time, encouraged commitments to the free market and wariness of government. As a result, American culture and much of the rest of the world became more--and less--equal. Borstelmann explores how the 1970's forged the contours of contemporary America. Military, political, and economic crises undercut citizens' confidence in government. Free market enthusiasm led to lower taxes, a volunteer army, individual 401(k) retirement plans, free agency in sports, deregulated airlines, and expansions in gambling and pornography. At the same time, the movement for civil rights grew, promoting changes for women, gays, immigrants, and the disabled. And developments were not limited to the United States. Many countries gave up colonial and racial hierarchies to develop a new formal commitment to human rights, while economic deregulation spread to other parts of the world, from Chile and the United Kingdom to China. Placing a tempestuous political culture within a global perspective, The 1970's shows that the decade wrought irrevocable transformations upon American society and the broader world that continue to resonate today.
