The author analyzes the reasons for this passivity, pointing to conflicts of interest with respect to corporate governance activity in pension plans and also to limitations in corporate, securities, and pension law. He argues that plan members should be given a voice in pension plan governance and the plans made accountable, and he outlines the legal reforms necessary. 606 $aPension trusts$xInvestments 606 $aSocial responsibility of business 606 $aInstitutional investments$xSocial aspects 606 $aCorporate governance 606 $aPension trusts$xManagement 606 $aInstitutional investors 606 $aRe?gimes prive?s de retraite$xInvestissements 606 $aEntreprises$xResponsabilite? sociale 606 $aInvestissements institutionnels$xAspect social 606 $aGouvernement d'entreprise 606 $aRe?gimes prive?s de retraite$xGestion 606 $aInvestisseurs institutionnels 615 0$aPension trusts$xInvestments. 615 0$aSocial responsibility of business. 615 0$aInstitutional investments$xSocial aspects. 615 0$aCorporate governance. 615 0$aPension trusts$xManagement. 615 0$aInstitutional investors. 615 6$aRe?gimes prive?s de retraite$xInvestissements. 615 6$aEntreprises$xResponsabilite? sociale. 615 6$aInvestissements institutionnels$xAspect social. 615 6$aGouvernement d'entreprise. 615 6$aRe?gimes prive?s de retraite$xGestion. 615 6$aInvestisseurs institutionnels. 676 $a332.67/254 700 $aDavis$b Ronald$f1947-$0768184 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910780848703321 996 $aDemocratizing pension funds$93868907 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02905oam 22005654 450 001 9910154637503321 005 20161109020109.0 010 $a9780822362920 010 $a0822362929 024 7 $a10.1515/9780822373476 035 $a(OCoLC)1139362463 035 $a962329665 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC4753360 035 $a(DE-B1597)554695 035 $a(DE-B1597)9780822373476 035 $a(OCoLC)965709104 035 $a(CKB)3710000000964591 035 $a(Perlego)1466717 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000000964591 100 $a20161109d2017 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $2rdacontent 182 $2rdamedia 183 $2rdacarrier 200 10$aFinite media $eenvironmental implications of digital technologies /$fSean Cubitt 210 1$aDurham :$cDuke University Press,$d2017. 215 $a1 online resource (255 pages) 225 1 $aA cultural politics book 300 $a"A cultural politics book." 311 08$aOnline version: Cubitt, Sean, 1953- author. In Finite Media Sean Cubitt offers a large-scale rethinking of theories of mediation by examining the environmental and human toll exacted by mining and the manufacture, use, and disposal of millions of phones, computers, and other devices. The way out is through an eco-political media aesthetics, in which people use media to shift their relationship to the environment and where public goods and spaces are available to all. Cubitt demonstrates this through case studies ranging from the 1906 film The Story of the Kelly Gang to an image of Saturn taken during NASA's Cassini-Huygens mission, suggesting that affective responses to images may generate a populist environmental politics that demands better ways of living and being. Only by reorienting our use of media, Cubitt contends, can we overcome the failures of political elites and the ravages of capital. 410 0$aCultural politics book. 606 $aDigital media$xEnvironmental aspects 606 $aDigital media$xPolitical aspects 606 $aDigital media$xSocial aspects 615 0$aDigital media$xEnvironmental aspects. 615 0$aDigital media$xPolitical aspects. 615 0$aDigital media$xSocial aspects. 676 $a302.23/1 700 $aCubitt$b Sean$f1953-$01139729 801 0$bNDD 801 1$bNDD 801 2$bNDD 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910154637503321 996 $aFinite media$92890255 997 $aUNINA
