Johannes Ehrat's analysis of meaning in cinema has convinced him that what is needed is greater philosophical reflection on the construction of meaning. In Cinema and Semiotic, he attempts to resurrect meaning by employing Charles S. Peirce's theories on semiotics to debate the major contemporary film theories that have diluted it.Based on Peirce's Semiotic and Pragmatism, Ehrat offers a novel approach to cinematic meaning in three central areas: narrative enunciation, cinematic world appropriation, and cinematic perception. Attempting a comprehensive theory of cinema ? instead of the regional 'middle-ground' theories that function only on certain 'common-sense' assumptions that borrow uncritically from psychophysiology ? Ehrat further demonstrates how a semiotic approach grasps the nature of time, not in a psychological manner, but rather cognitively, and provides a new understanding of the particular filmic sign process that relates a sign to the existence or non-existence of objects. Never before has Peirce been so fruitfully employed for the comprehension of meaning in cinema. 410 0$aToronto studies in semiotics and communication 606 $aMotion pictures$xSemiotics 606 $aMotion pictures$xAesthetics 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aMotion pictures$xSemiotics. 615 0$aMotion pictures$xAesthetics. 676 $a791.43014 700 $aEhrat$b Johannes$f1952-$0778090 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910455827503321 996 $aCinema and Semiotic$91686884 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01367nas a2200325 i 4500 001 991001841949707536 006 m 007 cr 008 011205m19889999de m| s 0 |eng d 022 $a1432-0576$l0992-7689 035 $ab14079379-39ule_inst 080 $aCDU 550.3 222 0$aAnnales geophysicae [1988] 245 00$aAnnales geophysicae [1988]$h[e-journal]. - 1988- 260 $aBerlin,$c1988- 500 $aDeriva dalla fusione di: Annales geophysicae. With the rapid growth of digital content and the rise of video-sharing platforms, users face significant challenges when searching for particular content across vast video archives. This book addresses how video moment localization uses natural language queries to bridge the gap between video content and semantic understanding, offering an intuitive solution for locating specific moments across diverse domains like surveillance, education, and entertainment. This book explores the latest advancements in video moment localization, addressing key issues such as accuracy, efficiency, and scalability. It presents innovative techniques for contextual understanding and cross-modal semantic alignment, including attention mechanisms and dynamic query decomposition. Additionally, the book discusses solutions for enhancing computational efficiency and scalability, such as semantic pruning and efficient hashing, while introducing frameworks for better integration between visual and textual data. It also examines weakly-supervised learning approaches to reduce annotation costs without sacrificing performance. Finally, the book covers real-world applications and offers insights into future research directions. 606 $aImage processing$xDigital techniques 606 $aComputer vision 606 $aArtificial intelligence$xData processing 606 $aQuantitative research 606 $aMultimedia systems 606 $aComputer Imaging, Vision, Pattern Recognition and Graphics 606 $aData Science 606 $aData Analysis and Big Data 606 $aMultimedia Information Systems 615 0$aImage processing$xDigital techniques. 615 0$aComputer vision. 615 0$aArtificial intelligence$xData processing. 615 0$aQuantitative research. 615 0$aMultimedia systems. 615 14$aComputer Imaging, Vision, Pattern Recognition and Graphics. 615 24$aData Science. 615 24$aData Analysis and Big Data. 615 24$aMultimedia Information Systems. 676 $a006 700 $aLiu$b Meng$01830182 701 $aHu$b Yupeng$01830183 701 $aGuan$b Weili$01799327 701 $aNie$b Liqiang$01783719 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9911011778903321 996 $aIntelligent and Efficient Video Moment Localization$94400464 997 $aUNINA
