Analysis is conducted by placing relevant texts within their literary-narrative context and through consideration of how the author understood and appropriated biblical traditions. A key feature of this study is its examination of four early Jewish documents with significant similarities to the problem being examined in Revelation. From these documents (Tobit; Similitudes of Enoch [1 Enoch 37-71]; 4 Ezra; and, Animal Apocalypse [1 Enoch 85-90]) a contextual picture emerges which allows a fuller understanding of Revelation's distinctive approach toward the problem of the fate of the nations. This study contends that the interpretive strategies applied to biblical traditions in Revelation have their roots in the wider early Jewish milieu. From this comparative analysis, identifiable patterns with regard to the role of 'universal terminology' in the communicative strategy of John's Apocalypse emerge. 410 0$aBeihefte zur Zeitschrift fu?r die neutestamentliche Wissenschaft und die Kunde der a?lteren Kirche ;$vBeiheft 143. 606 $aApocalyptic literature$vComparative studies 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aApocalyptic literature 676 $a228.066 700 $aHerms$b Ronald$01051503 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910463476803321 996 $aAn apocalypse for the church and for the world$92482041 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01307nam a2200313 i 4500 001 991001473399707536 005 20020507194115.0 008 950906s1995 us ||| | eng 020 $a0817637206 035 $ab10852335-39ule_inst 035 $aLE01312794$9ExL 040 $aDip.to Matematica$beng 082 0 $a515.64 084 $aAMS 49S05 100 1 $aMorel, Jean-Michel$060714 245 10$aVariational methods in image segmentation :$bwith seven image processing experiments /$cJean-Michel Morel, Sergio Solimini 260 $aBoston ; Basel ; Berlin :$bBirkhauser,$cc1995 300 $axvi, 245 p. :$bill. ;$c24 cm. 490 0 $aProgress in nonlinear differential equations and their applications ;$v14 500 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index 650 4$aGeometric measure theory 650 4$aImage processing-digital techniques 700 1 $aSolimini, Sergio$eauthor$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$060715 907 $a.b10852335$b23-02-17$c28-06-02 912 $a991001473399707536 945 $aLE013 49S05 MOR11 (1995)$g1$i2013000035352$lle013$o-$pE0.00$q-$rl$s- $t0$u4$v0$w4$x0$y.i10963856$z28-06-02 996 $aVariational methods in image segmentation$91432140 997 $aUNISALENTO 998 $ale013$b01-01-95$cm$da $e-$feng$gus $h0$i1
