Contrary to common past belief, it is now rather clear that such effects are far from irrelevant. A decade or so of intense theoretical work has shed much light on the subject and brought to surface an entire class of new phenomena, which now await thorough experimental investigation. Over the next few years a number of experiments world-wide (at BNL, CERN, DESY and JLAB) will run with transversely polarised beams and targets, providing data that will enrich our knowledge of the transverse-spin structure of hadrons. It is therefore timely to assess the state of the art, and this is the principal aim of the volume. An outline of the book is as follows. After a few introductory remarks (Chapter 1), attention is directed in Chapter 2 to transversely polarised deeply-inelastic scattering (DIS), which probes the transverse spin structure function g2. This existing data are reviewed and discussed (for completeness, a brief presentation of longitudinally polarised DIS is also provided). In Chapter 3 the transverse-spin structure of the proton is illustrated in detail, with emphasis on the transversity distribution and the twist-three parton distribution contributing to g2. Model calculations of these quantities are also presented. In Chapter 4, the QCD evolution of transversity is studied at leading and next-to-leading order. Chapter 5 illustrates the g2 structure function and its related sum rules within the framework of perturbative QCD. The last three chapters are devoted to the phenomenology of transversity, in the context of Drell-Yan processes (Chapter 6), inclusive leptoproduction (Chapter 7) and inclusive hadroproduction (Chapter 8). The interpretation of some recent single-spin asymmetry data is discussed and the prospects for future measurements are reviewed. 606 $aHigh spin physics 606 $aNuclear spin 606 $aHadrons 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aHigh spin physics. 615 0$aNuclear spin. 615 0$aHadrons. 676 $a539.725 700 $aBarone$b Vincenzo$cDr.$0358846 701 $aRatcliffe$b Philip G$0943694 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910454342603321 996 $aTransverse spin physics$92130260 997 $aUNINA LEADER 12120nam 2200673Ia 450 001 9910460118003321 005 20200520144314.0 010 $a1-283-33188-8 010 $a1-78034-887-8 010 $a9786613331885 010 $a0-520-94843-2 024 7 $a10.1525/9780520948433 035 $a(CKB)2670000000067280 035 $a(EBL)631046 035 $a(OCoLC)703170337 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000468764 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11284639 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000468764 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10507272 035 $a(PQKB)10572821 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC631046 035 $a(DE-B1597)520811 035 $a(DE-B1597)9780520948433 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL631046 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10440611 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL333188 035 $a(EXLCZ)992670000000067280 100 $a20100329d2011 ub 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 00$aEncyclopedia of biological invasions$b[electronic resource] /$fedited by Daniel Simberloff and Marcel Rejma?nek 210 $aBerkeley $cUniversity of California Press$d2011 215 $a1 online resource (790 p.) 225 1 $aEncyclopedias of the natural world ;$v3 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 $a0-520-26421-5 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 327 $r-- $tX -- $t Xenophobia / $rCoates, Peter -- $tZ -- $tZebra Mussel / $rJohnson, Ladd Erik -- $t100 of the World's Worst Invasive Alien Species: A Selection From The Global Invasive Species Database -- $t Glossary -- $tKey References -- $t Index 327 $tFrontmatter -- $tContents -- $tContents by Subject Area -- $t Contributors -- $t Guide to the Encyclopedia -- $tPreface -- $tA -- $tAcclimatization Societies / $rLever, Christopher -- $t Agreements, International / $rReaser, Jamie K . -- $tAgriculture / $rDavis, Adam S. / Landis, Douglas A. -- $tAlgae / $rSmith, Jennifer E. -- $t Allelopathy / $rInderjit -- $tAnts / $rSanders, Nathan J. -- $t Apomixis / $rKoltunow , Anna M. / Okada, Takashi / Bicknell, Ross A. -- $tAquaculture / $rBartley, Devin M. -- $tAquaria / $rDuggan, Ian C. -- $tAustralia: Invasions / $rLow, Tim -- $tB -- $t Ballast / $rCarlton, James T. -- $tBees / $rGoulson, David -- $tBelowground Phenomena / $rWardle, David A. -- $t Biological Control, of Animals / $rFrank, J.
