Nuova Serie" from the vol. 69 (1962) until the vol. 73 (1966). Then, the issues from 1967- are published with the new numbering sequence 101- . This new numbering system express the total volumes issued since the foundation of the journal, that is 1844 500 $a"This new numbering system appears since 1962 when the "Nuovo giornale botanico italiano. Nuova Serie" changed its title to the original one of "Giornale Botanico Italiano". This journal was founded in fact under this name in 1844, but only vols. 1 and 2 were issued. After an interruption of some years the journal appeared again in 1869 with a new numbering and with the title of "Nuovo giornale botanico italiano"; it was publised regularly until 1893 (Vols. 1-25). In 1894 a new series was started "Nuovo giornale botanico italiano. Nuova Serie" again with a new numbering; this new series continued until 1961 (Vols. 1-68). The following year the old title of "Giornale botanico italiano" was resumed but numerical succession of the preceding "new series" was maintained and the volume issued in 1962 was marked as vol. 69. As the same time by adding the notation "96° volume dalla fondazione del periodico" a clear indication was given of the total number of volumes published under the different headings.
