SUMMARY OF SURVEY ON GENDER AND MACROECONOMICS""; ""REFERENCES"" 330 3 $aThis survey examines the implications of gender differences in economic behavior for macroeconomic policy. It finds that reducing gender inequality and improving the status of women may contribute to higher rates of economic growth and greater macroeconomic stability. Women's relative lack of opportunities in developing countries inhibits economic growth, while, at the same time, economic growth leads to a reduction in their disadvantaged condition. Equality of opportunity in labor and financial markets is critical to enabling women to take full advantage of improved macroeconomic conditions. Macroeconomic policies should take into account the benefits of reducing gender inequalities, especially in the lowest-income countries where these differences are most pronounced, and should consider the potentially harsher short-term effects of economic austerity measures on women to avoid exacerbating gender inequalities. 410 0$aIMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;$vNo. 2006/233 606 $aMacroeconomics$xEconomic policy 606 $aEconomics 606 $aLabor$2imf 606 $aWomen''s Studies'$2imf 606 $aGender Studies$2imf 606 $aEconomics of Gender$2imf 606 $aNon-labor Discrimination$2imf 606 $aDemand and Supply of Labor: General$2imf 606 $aEducation: General$2imf 606 $aGender studies$2imf 606 $awomen & girls$2imf 606 $aSocial discrimination & equal treatment$2imf 606 $aLabour$2imf 606 $aincome economics$2imf 606 $aGender studies, gender groups$2imf 606 $aEducation$2imf 606 $aWomen$2imf 606 $aGender inequality$2imf 606 $aLabor markets$2imf 606 $aGender$2imf 606 $aSex discrimination$2imf 606 $aLabor market$2imf 606 $aSex role$2imf 607 $aBangladesh$2imf 615 0$aMacroeconomics$xEconomic policy. 615 0$aEconomics. 615 7$aLabor 615 7$aWomen''s Studies' 615 7$aGender Studies 615 7$aEconomics of Gender 615 7$aNon-labor Discrimination 615 7$aDemand and Supply of Labor: General 615 7$aEducation: General 615 7$aGender studies 615 7$awomen & girls 615 7$aSocial discrimination & equal treatment 615 7$aLabour 615 7$aincome economics 615 7$aGender studies, gender groups 615 7$aEducation 615 7$aWomen 615 7$aGender inequality 615 7$aLabor markets 615 7$aGender 615 7$aSex discrimination 615 7$aLabor market 615 7$aSex role 700 $aStotsky$b Janet$01094931 712 02$aInternational Monetary Fund.$bFiscal Affairs Dept. 801 0$bDcWaIMF 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910788526503321 996 $aGender and its Relevance to Macroeconomic Policy$93670984 997 $aUNINA
