A case-based approach values experiential professional learning and expands professional competences necessary to promote autonomy in schools: developing a critical view of (language) education; managing local constraints so as to open up spaces for manoeuvre; centring teaching on learning; interacting with others in the professional community. Two strategies to implement the approach are presented and illustrated. The first one involves teachers in designing, implementing and evaluating experiences of pedagogy for autonomy, which are the basis for writing professional narratives and building a case portfolio. The second draws on teachers' pedagogical experience as the basis for the construction of case materials where experiential elements are combined with theoretical input and reflective tasks, so that the teachers who use those materials can reflect about and explore their own practice. 410 0$aStudies in second and foreign language education ;$v9. 606 $aLanguage and languages$xStudy and teaching 606 $aLearner autonomy 610 $aLanguage Education, Language Teaching. 615 0$aLanguage and languages$xStudy and teaching. 615 0$aLearner autonomy. 676 $a400 700 $aJime?nez Raya$b Manuel$0869387 702 $aVieira$b Fla?via 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996309235903316 996 $aEnhancing autonomy in language education$91940998 997 $aUNISA LEADER 01016nam a2200277 i 4500 001 991000158089707536 008 031204s2003 nyua b 001 0 eng d 020 $a0387009280 035 $ab12577984-39ule_inst 040 $aDip.to Matematica$beng 082 0 $a519.52$221 084 $aAMS 62-02 084 $aLC QA278.8.L344 100 1 $aLahiri, S.
