This was despite the fact that expressing such views between 1660 and 1688 was to open oneself to charges of sedition or treason. This book uses approaches from the field of memory studies to examine 'seditious memories' in seventeenth-century Britain, asking why people were prepared to take the risk of voicing them in public. It argues that such activities were more than a manifestation of discontent or radicalism -- they also provided a way of countering experiences of defeat. Besides speech and writing, parliamentarian and republican views are shown to have manifested as misbehaviour during official commemorations of the civil wars and republic. The book also considers how such views were passed on from the generation of men and women who experienced civil war and revolution to their children and grandchildren. 410 0$aPolitics, culture, and society in early modern Britain. 606 $aSedition$zGreat Britain$xHistory$y17th century 607 $aGreat Britain$xHistory$yCivil War, 1642-1649$xPublic opinion 607 $aGreat Britain$xHistory$yRestoration, 1660-1688 608 $aElectronic books. 610 $aBritain. 610 $aCharles II. 610 $aCivil War. 610 $aCommemoration. 610 $aInterregnum. 610 $aJames II. 610 $aMemory. 610 $aRadicalism. 610 $aRepublic. 610 $aRepublicanism. 610 $aRestoration. 615 0$aSedition$xHistory 676 $a941.06 700 $aLegon$b Edward$01511653 801 0$bMdBmJHUP 801 1$bMdBmJHUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910793595003321 996 $aRevolution remembered$93745092 997 $aUNINA LEADER 00983nam0-22003251i-450 001 990008005510403321 005 20250910124611.0 010 $a88-7166-624-0 035 $a000800551 035 $aFED01000800551 035 $a(Aleph)000800551FED01 035 $a000800551 100 $a20050216d2002----km-y0itay50------ba 101 0 $aita 102 $aIT 105 $a--------001cy 200 1 $a<>passioni dell'anima$edalla Somma di teologia 1.,2., questioni 22-48$fTommaso d'Aquino$gtraduzione e introduzione di Silvana Vecchio 210 $aFirenze$cLe lettere$d2002 215 $a323 p.$d24 cm 225 1 $a<>biancospini$v3 676 $a230.092$v21$zita 700 0$aTommaso d'Aquino,$csanto$f<1225?-1274>$0290144 702 1$aVecchio,$bSilvana 801 0$aIT$bUNINA$gRICA$2UNIMARC$c20051602 901 $aBK 912 $a990008005510403321 952 $a189.4 TOMA 07$fFLFBC 959 $aFLFBC 996 $aPassioni dell'anima$9750949 997 $aUNINA
