Advances in discrete-event system modeling and simulation. 330 $a Computer modeling and simulation (M&S) allows engineers to study and analyze complex systems. Discrete-event system (DES)-M&S is used in modern management, industrial engineering, computer science, and the military. As computer speeds and memory capacity increase, so DES-M&S tools become more powerful and more widely used in solving real-life problems. Based on over 20 years of evolution within a classroom environment, as well as on decades-long experience in developing simulation-based solutions for high-tech industries, Modeling and Simulation of Discrete-Event Systems is the 606 $aDiscrete-time systems$xSimulation methods 615 0$aDiscrete-time systems$xSimulation methods. 676 $a003/.83 700 $aChoi$b Byoung Kyu$f1949-$0950207 701 $aKang$b Donghun$f1981-$0950208 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910139036403321 996 $aModeling and simulation of discrete-event systems$92148229 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03186nam 2200409 450 001 9910682545503321 005 20230512071317.0 010 $a0-8014-7697-6 024 7 $a10.7591/9780801460067 035 $a(CKB)5460000000023636 035 $a(NjHacI)995460000000023636 035 $a(EXLCZ)995460000000023636 100 $a20230512d2010 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur||||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aLegal Tender $elove and legitimacy in the East German cultural imagination /$fJohn Griffith Urang 210 1$aIthaca, N.Y. :$cCornell University Press,$d2010. 210 4$d©2010 215 $a1 online resource (x, 224 pages) $cillustrations 225 1 $aSignale (Ithaca, N.Y.) 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 327 $aIntroduction : Eros and exchange -- Wares of love : socialist romance and the commodity -- Love, labor, loss : modes of romance in the East German novel of arrival -- Corrective affinities : love, class, and the propagation of socialism -- W(h)ither Eros? : gender trouble in the GDR, 1975/1989 -- Eye contact : surveillance, perversion, and the last days of the GDR -- Coda : a chameleon wedding. 330 $aAt first glance, romance seems an improbable angle from which to write a cultural history of the German Democratic Republic. By most accounts the GDR was among the most dour and disciplined of socialist states, so devoted to the rigors of Stalinist aesthetics that the notion of an East German romantic comedy was more likely to generate punch lines than lines at the box office. But in fact, as John Urang shows in Legal Tender, love was freighted as a privileged site for the negotiation and reorganization of a surprising array of issues in East German public culture between 1949 and 1989. Through close readings of a diverse selection of films and novels from the former GDR, Urang offers an eye-opening account of the ideological stakes of love stories in East German culture. Throughout its forty-year existence the East German state was plagued with an ongoing problem of legitimacy. The love story's unique and unpredictable mix of stabilizing and subversive effects gave it a peculiar status in the cultural sphere. Urang shows how love stories could mediate the problem of social stratification, providing a language with which to discuss the experience of class antagonism without undermining the Party's legitimacy. But for the Party there was danger in borrowing legitimacy from the romantic plot: the love story's destabilizing influences of desire and drive could just as easily disrupt as reconcile. A unique contribution to German studies, Legal Tender offers remarkable insights into the uses and capacities of romance in modern Western culture. 410 0$aSignale (Ithaca, N.Y.) 606 $aLove in motion pictures 615 0$aLove in motion pictures. 676 $a791.436543 700 $aUrang$b John Griffith$01357279 801 0$bNjHacI 801 1$bNjHacl 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910682545503321 996 $aLegal Tender$93362974 997 $aUNINA LEADER 00900nam a22002411i 4500 001 991000130499707536 005 20020913115627.0 008 020913s1979 it a||||||||||||||||ita 035 $ab11963578-39ule_inst 035 $aARCHE-005337$9ExL 040 $aDip.to Filologia Ling. e Lett.$bita$cA.t.i.
