Sia quest'opera che l'inaugurazione della casa di Clarindon sono state attribuite ad Andrew Marvell. I quattro Consigli furono ristampati e attribuiti a Denham nella terza parte di "A collection of the newest and most ingenious poems, songs, catches, &c. against popery, relating to the times", del 1689, e furono nuovamente ristampati in "Poems on affairs of state", del 1702, dove "si dice che siano stati scritti da Sir John Denham, ma si ritiene che siano stati scritti dal signor Milton".
