Este libro ofrece una exposición completa de la evolución histórica del voseo en la región andina de Colombia desde el siglo XVI hasta el XX, en contraste con el mundo hispano. Vos evoluciona a partir de un pronombre latino plural hacia uno singular de respeto, que se populariza como tratamiento familiar en el siglo XVI y se estigmatiza. Desaparece de la escritura desde mediados del siglo XVII hasta principios del siglo XIX (período latente). Este libro documenta voseo en el período latente; realiza un análisis cuantitativo de los contextos lingüísticos y sociales de voseo en obras literarias y cartas privadas; y delinea la evolución morfológica.
