It explores the lives of Dunhuang?s multi-ethnic scribes, editors, and administrators and reveals how their practices changed in a short period of time during the 820s. In addition, the book surveys the significant differences across the multiple Tibetan and Chinese versions of the Sutra of Limitless Life (Tib. Tshe dpag du myed pa?i mdo; Ch. Wuliangshou zongyao jing; Skt. Aparimit?yu? s?tra) circulating in Dunhuang at this time, and introduces a previously unknown Tibetan version. Through working with such a large cross section of the Stein Collection, and by coming to terms with one of the single largest groups of Dunhuang manuscripts, the book provides new insights into how these manuscripts were documented and conserved, on their way from Dunhuang through Khotan to London and at the British Museum, India Office Library, and British Library. 410 0$aStudies in Manuscript Cultures Series 606 $aLITERARY CRITICISM / General$2bisacsh 610 $aChina. 610 $aTibet. 610 $abuddhism. 610 $amanuscript studies. 610 $asocial history. 615 7$aLITERARY CRITICISM / General. 700 $aDotson$b Brandon$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$01492485 702 $aDoney$b Lewis$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut 712 02$aUniversita?t Hamburg,$4fnd$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/fnd 801 0$bDE-B1597 801 1$bDE-B1597 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996633965303316 996 $aProducing Buddhist Sutras in Ninth-Century Tibet$94309615 997 $aUNISA
