Les communications traitant de sites urbains et/ou militaires (Autun, Metz, Strasbourg, Biesheim, Breisach) s?interrogent sur l?évolution de la parure monumentale et de la topographie, la société, l?économie et la fonction des villes et agglomérations au cours de l?Antiquité tardive. Une série de communications étudie quant à elle plusieurs sites des campagnes tardives, avec différentes approches méthodologiques et typologiques. Les résultats illustrent la profonde transformation de l?aspect et de l?organisation des villes et des campagnes à la fin de l?Antiquité, mais aussi le maintien de leur intégration dans une économie ouverte aux réseaux d?échange à longue distance. Dans ce cadre, plusieurs communications s?interrogent sur l?impact de l?État et de l?armée, notamment celui des troupes fédérées.
