Instead, the process of state formation in the region has been a complicated course that involved different institutional traditions, managing societies marked by varying degrees of political loyalty to central power, and dealing with colonial interference. Rethinking State and Border Formation in the Middle East seeks to disentangle some of these complexities by proposing both a decentred and dialectic approach. Taking its cue from the bourgeoning field of borderland studies and a variety of historical sub-disciplines, this monograph pays attention to the circulation of people, goods, diseases and ideas as well as to the everyday encounters between a wide range of state and non-state actors in the borderlands laying between Turkey, Syria and Iraq. The goal is to provide a much more holistic yet finely-grained understanding of the formation of the territorial state in the interwar Middle East. 606 $aBorderlands$zIraq$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aBorderlands$zSyria$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aBorderlands$zTurkey$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aNationalism$zMiddle East$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aHISTORY / Middle East / General$2bisacsh 615 0$aBorderlands$xHistory 615 0$aBorderlands$xHistory 615 0$aBorderlands$xHistory 615 0$aNationalism$xHistory 615 7$aHISTORY / Middle East / General. 676 $a956/.03 700 $aTejel$b Jordi$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$01131860 801 0$bDE-B1597 801 1$bDE-B1597 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996543172103316 996 $aRethinking State and Border Formation in the Middle East$93551186 997 $aUNISA LEADER 03414oam 22006373a 450 001 9910838240603321 005 20230105202025.0 010 $a3-657-77108-5 024 7 $a10.30965/9783657771080 035 $a(CKB)4920000000123778 035 $a(nllekb)BRILL9783657771080 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC6517568 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL6517568 035 $a(OCoLC)1243533332 035 $a(EXLCZ)994920000000123778 100 $a20111104d2011 uy 0 101 0 $ager 135 $aurun####uuuua 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $2rdacarrier 200 10$aWanderer im nationalen Niemandsland $epolnische Ethnizita?t in Mitteldeutschland von 1880 bis zur Gegenwart /$fJohannes Frackowiak 210 1$aPaderborn :$cVerlag Ferdinand Schöningh,$d2011. 215 $a1 online resource 225 1 $aStudien zur Historischen Migrationsforschung;$vvolume24 311 $a3-506-77108-6 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references (p. 225-235) and index. 410 0$aStudien zur Historischen Migrationsforschung;$vvolume24. 606 $aPolish people$zGermany$y19th century 606 $aPolish people$zGermany$y20th century 606 $aGermanization 606 $aAssimilation (Sociology) 606 $aEthnische Identita?t$2swd 606 $aNationalbewusstsein$2swd 606 $aAssimilation $2swd 606 $aRu?ckwanderung$2swd 607 $aBitterfeld (Germany : Landkreis) 607 $aBitterfeld $2swd 607 $aPolen $2swd 615 0$aPolish people 615 0$aPolish people 615 0$aGermanization. 615 0$aAssimilation (Sociology) 615 7$aEthnische Identita?t 615 7$aNationalbewusstsein 615 7$aAssimilation 615 7$aRu?ckwanderung 700 $aFrackowiak$b Johannes$01727787 801 0$bNL-LeKB 801 1$bNL-LeKB 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910838240603321 996 $aWanderer im nationalen Niemandsland$94135625 997 $aUNINA
