Als Hersteller des Hauptbestandes der Sammlung wird Philipp Daniel Lippert ermittelt, der bisher nur als Verfertiger von preiswerteren Daktyliotheken in Talkmasse bekannt war.Inhaltlich umfasst sie alle Bereiche der antiken Kultur. Schwerpunkte liegen bei Porträts und Gemmen mit Meistersignaturen. Viele der Originale sind heute verschollen, wodurch die Glaspasten zu Primärquellen werden. Andere Originale mit bekanntem Aufbewahrungsort werden erstmals der Forschung erschlossen. Weit verstreute Originale, antike und antikisierende Gemmenbilder lassen sich unmittelbar miteinander vergleichen.
