An Abolitionism Worthy of the Name --$tcontributors --$tindex 330 $aThis volume represents the first collection of essays devoted exclusively to Jacques Derrida's Death Penalty Seminars, conducted from 1999 to 2001. The volume includes essays from a range of scholars working in philosophy, law, Francophone studies, and comparative literature, including established Derridians, activist scholars, and emerging scholars. These essays attempt to elucidate and expand upon Derrida's deconstruction of the theologico-political logic of the death penalty in order to construct a new form of abolitionism, one not rooted in the problematic logics of sovereign power. These essays provide remarkable insight into Derrida?s ethical and political projects; this volume will not only explore the implications of Derrida?s thought on capital punishment and mass incarceration, but will also help to further elucidate the philosophical groundwork for his later deconstructions of sovereign power and the human/animal divide. Because Derrida is deconstructing the logic of the death penalty, rather than the death penalty itself, his seminars will prove useful to scholars and activists opposing all forms of state sanctioned killing. In compiling this volume, our goals were twofold: first, to make a case for Derrida's continuing importance in debates on capital punishment, mass incarceration, and police brutality, and second, to construct a new, versatile abolitionism, one capable of confronting all forms the death penalty might take. 410 0$aFordham scholarship online. 606 $aPower (Social sciences) 606 $aImprisonment$xMoral and ethical aspects 606 $aCapital punishment$xMoral and ethical aspects 606 $aCapital punishment$xPhilosophy 608 $aElectronic books. 610 $aCapital Punishment. 610 $aDeath Penalty Abolition. 610 $aDeath Penalty. 610 $aDeconstruction. 610 $aJacques Derrida. 610 $aMass Incarceration. 610 $aPolitical Theology. 610 $aPrison Industrial Complex. 610 $aPsychoanalysis. 610 $aSovereignty. 615 0$aPower (Social sciences) 615 0$aImprisonment$xMoral and ethical aspects. 615 0$aCapital punishment$xMoral and ethical aspects. 615 0$aCapital punishment$xPhilosophy. 676 $a364.6601 701 $aAnderson$b Nicole$0938502 701 $aChenoweth$b Katie$01028449 701 $aGuenther$b Lisa$01028450 701 $aHowells$b Christina$0966256 701 $aKamuf$b Peggy$0251640 701 $aKuiken$b Kir$01028451 701 $aMarder$b Elissa$0973924 701 $aNaas$b Michael$0689709 701 $aOliver$b Kelly$0689708 701 $aRottenberg$b Elizabeth$0992195 701 $aSaghafi$b Kas$0704713 701 $aThurschwell$b Adam$01028452 701 $aTyson$b Sarah$01028453 702 $aOliver$b Kelly$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aStraub$b Stephanie$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 801 0$bDE-B1597 801 1$bDE-B1597 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910478882603321 996 $aDeconstructing the Death Penalty$92444474 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02893 am 22008053u 450 001 996509970403316 005 20210317175408.0 010 $a1-4473-0220-6 010 $a1-283-22444-5 010 $a9786613224446 010 $a1-84742-608-5 035 $a(CKB)2550000000043514 035 $a(EBL)744801 035 $a(OCoLC)747409566 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000536334 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)12176320 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000536334 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10546994 035 $a(PQKB)11361966 035 $a(UtOrBLW)PPO00109 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC744801 035 $a(WaSeSS)IndRDA00124390 035 $a(ScCtBLL)a8f4c514-f3b8-42da-acb0-ac92da4786c2 035 $a(oapen)https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/28361 035 $a(DE-B1597)647182 035 $a(DE-B1597)9781847426086 035 $a(EXLCZ)992550000000043514 100 $a20200608d2011 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aEquality and diversity $evalue incommensurability and the politics of recognition /$fSteven R. It provides new and important insights into what it means to be a Black male teacher and suggests strategies for school districts, teacher preparation programs, researchers and other stakeholders to rethink why and how we recruit and train Black male teachers for urban K-12 classrooms. 410 0$aRoutledge critical studies in gender and sexuality in education. 606 $aMasculinity 606 $aEducation, Urban 606 $aMale teachers 615 0$aMasculinity. 615 0$aEducation, Urban. 615 0$aMale teachers. 676 $a155.332 676 $a371.1008996073 686 $aEDU032000$aEDU038000$aSOC032000$2bisacsh 700 $aBrockenbrough$b Edward$01074365 801 0$bFlBoTFG 801 1$bFlBoTFG 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910518192703321 996 $aBlack men teaching in urban schools$92572522 997 $aUNINA
