In this book, a new method for this is developed based upon the analysis of the Atiyah-Hirzebruch spectral sequence. After the tools for this analysis are developed, these methods are applied to compute inductively the first 64 stable stems, a substantial improvement over the previously known 45. Much of this computation is algorithmic and is done by computer. As an application, an element of degree 62 of Kervaire invariant one is shown to have order two. This book will be useful to algebraic topologists and graduate students with a knowledge of basic homotopy theory and Brown-Peterson homology; for its methods, as a reference on the structure of the first 64 stable stems and for the tables depicting the behavior of the Atiyah-Hirzebruch and classical Adams spectral sequences through degree 64. 410 0$aLecture notes in mathematics (Springer-Verlag) ;$v1423. 606 $aHomotopy groups$xData processing 606 $aSphere 615 0$aHomotopy groups$xData processing. 615 0$aSphere. 676 $a514.24 700 $aKochman$b Stanley O.$f1946-$059557 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996466630503316 996 $aStable homotopy groups of spheres$978769 997 $aUNISA LEADER 01771nam 2200541 450 001 9910796028803321 005 20230808202153.0 010 $a1-62895-251-2 010 $a1-60917-478-X 035 $a(CKB)3780000000096387 035 $a(EBL)4413810 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001619498 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)16349594 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001619498 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)14788969 035 $a(PQKB)10747507 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC4413810 035 $a(OCoLC)930758586 035 $a(MdBmJHUP)muse51612 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL4413810 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr11202813 035 $a(EXLCZ)993780000000096387 100 $a20160425h20162016 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aEnigmas of sacrifice $ea critique of Joseph M.
