ICONIP 2004 is organized jointly by the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) and Jadavpur University (JU). We are con?dent that ICONIP 2004, like the previous conf- ences in this series, will providea forum for fruitful interactionandthe exchange of ideas between the participants coming from all parts of the globe. ICONIP 2004 covers all major facets of computational intelligence, but, of course, with a primary emphasis on neural networks. We are sure that this meeting will be enjoyable academically and otherwise. We are thankful to the track chairs and the reviewers for extending their support in various forms to make a sound technical program. Except for a few cases, where we could get only two review reports, each submitted paper was reviewed by at least three referees, and in some cases the revised versions were againcheckedbythereferees. Wehad470submissionsanditwasnotaneasytask for us to select papers for a four-day conference. Because of the limited duration of the conference, based on the review reports we selected only about 40% of the contributed papers. Consequently, it is possible that some good papers are left out. We again express our sincere thanks to all referees for accomplishing a great job. In addition to 186 contributed papers, the proceedings includes two plenary presentations, four invited talks and 18 papers in four special sessions. The proceedings is organized into 26 coherent topical groups. 410 0$aLecture Notes in Computer Science,$x0302-9743 ;$v3316 606 $aArtificial intelligence 606 $aComputers 606 $aPattern recognition 606 $aOptical data processing 606 $aMathematical statistics 606 $aAlgorithms 606 $aArtificial Intelligence$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I21000 606 $aComputation by Abstract Devices$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I16013 606 $aPattern Recognition$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I2203X 606 $aImage Processing and Computer Vision$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I22021 606 $aProbability and Statistics in Computer Science$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I17036 606 $aAlgorithm Analysis and Problem Complexity$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I16021 615 0$aArtificial intelligence. 615 0$aComputers. 615 0$aPattern recognition. 615 0$aOptical data processing. 615 0$aMathematical statistics. 615 0$aAlgorithms. 615 14$aArtificial Intelligence. 615 24$aComputation by Abstract Devices. 615 24$aPattern Recognition. 615 24$aImage Processing and Computer Vision. 615 24$aProbability and Statistics in Computer Science. 615 24$aAlgorithm Analysis and Problem Complexity. 676 $a006.3/2 702 $aPal$b Nikil R$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aKasabov$b Nikola$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aMudi$b Rajani K$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aPal$b Srimanta$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aParui$b Swapan K$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 712 12$aICONIP (Conference) 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996466362703316 996 $aNeural Information Processing$9772616 997 $aUNISA
