But why this recognition came about-and what it has meant for the field of historiography-has long been a matter of confusion and controversy. Writing History in Renaissance Italy offers a fresh approach to the subject by undertaking a systematic, work-by-work investigation that encompasses for the first time the full range of Bruni's output in history and biography. The study is the first to assess in detail the impact of the classical Greek historians on the development of humanist methods of historical writing. It highlights in particular the importance of Thucydides and Polybius-authors Bruni was among the first in the West to read, and whose analytical approach to politics led him in new directions. Yet the revolution in history that unfolds across the four decades covered in this study is no mere revival of classical models: Ianziti constantly monitors Bruni's position within the shifting hierarchies of power in Florence, drawing connections between his various historical works and the political uses they were meant to serve. The result is a clearer picture of what Bruni hoped to achieve, and a more precise analysis of the dynamics driving his new approach to the past. Bruni himself emerges as a protagonist of the first order, a figure whose location at the center of power was a decisive factor shaping his innovations in historical writing. 410 0$aI Tatti studies in Italian Renaissance history. 606 $aHistorians$zItaly$zFlorence$vBiography 606 $aBiographers$zItaly$zFlorence$vBiography 606 $aHumanists$zItaly$zFlorence$vBiography 606 $aHistoriography$zItaly$zFlorence$xHistory$yTo 1500 606 $aRenaissance$zItaly$zFlorence$xHistoriography 607 $aFlorence (Italy)$xHistory$yTo 1421$xHistoriography 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aHistorians 615 0$aBiographers 615 0$aHumanists 615 0$aHistoriography$xHistory 615 0$aRenaissance$xHistoriography. 676 $a945/.511007202 676 $aB 700 $aIanziti$b Gary$0592219 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910461270903321 996 $aWriting history in Renaissance Italy$91769759 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03440nam 22007575 450 001 996466173703316 005 20230221053325.0 010 $a3-030-04239-1 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-030-04239-4 035 $a(CKB)4100000007181242 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-030-04239-4 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC6297412 035 $a(PPN)232963665 035 $a(EXLCZ)994100000007181242 100 $a20181117d2018 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurnn|008mamaa 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aNeural Information Processing$b[electronic resource] $e25th International Conference, ICONIP 2018, Siem Reap, Cambodia, December 13?16, 2018, Proceedings, Part VII /$fedited by Long Cheng, Andrew Chi Sing Leung, Seiichi Ozawa 205 $a1st ed. 2018. 210 1$aCham :$cSpringer International Publishing :$cImprint: Springer,$d2018. 215 $a1 online resource (XXII, 689 p. 347 illus., 250 illus. in color.) 225 1 $aTheoretical Computer Science and General Issues,$x2512-2029 ;$v11307 311 $a3-030-04238-3 327 $aRobotics and Control -- Biomedical Applications -- Hardware. 330 $aThe seven-volume set of LNCS 11301-11307, constitutes the proceedings of the 25th International Conference on Neural Information Processing, ICONIP 2018, held in Siem Reap, Cambodia, in December 2018.
