Crema, Italy, on September 15?17, 2005, continuing an established tradition of biannual meetings among researchers and developers from both academia and industry to report on the latest scientific and theoretical advances, to discuss and debate major issues, and to demonstrate state-of-the-art systems. This edition of the workshop included two special sessions, sort of sub-workshops, focusing on the application of soft computing techniques (or computational intelligence) to image processing (SCIP) and bioinformatics (CIBB). WILF began life in Naples in 1995. Subsequent editions of this event took place in 1997 in Bari, in 1999 in Genoa, in 2001 in Milan, and in 2003 back in Naples. Soft computing, also known as computational intelligence, differs from conventional (hard) computing in that, unlike hard computing, it is tolerant of imprecision, uncertainty, partial truth, and approximation. The guiding principle of soft computing is to exploit the tolerance for imprecision, uncertainty, partial truth, and approximation to achieve tractability, robustness, and low solution cost. The main components of soft computing are fuzzy logic, neural computing, and evolutionary computation. 410 0$aLecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence ;$v3849 606 $aArtificial intelligence 606 $aMathematical logic 606 $aComputers 606 $aInformation storage and retrieval 606 $aDatabase management 606 $aOptical data processing 606 $aArtificial Intelligence$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I21000 606 $aMathematical Logic and Formal Languages$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I16048 606 $aComputation by Abstract Devices$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I16013 606 $aInformation Storage and Retrieval$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I18032 606 $aDatabase Management$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I18024 606 $aImage Processing and Computer Vision$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I22021 615 0$aArtificial intelligence. 615 0$aMathematical logic. 615 0$aComputers. 615 0$aInformation storage and retrieval. 615 0$aDatabase management. 615 0$aOptical data processing. 615 14$aArtificial Intelligence. 615 24$aMathematical Logic and Formal Languages. 615 24$aComputation by Abstract Devices. 615 24$aInformation Storage and Retrieval. 615 24$aDatabase Management. 615 24$aImage Processing and Computer Vision. 676 $a006.3 702 $aBloch$b Isabelle$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aPetrosino$b Alfredo$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aTettamanzi$b Andrea G.B$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 712 12$aInternational Workshop on Soft Computing and Applications 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996466157003316 996 $aFuzzy Logic and Applications$9773135 997 $aUNISA
