How did doping become a crisis? What does a doping violation actually entail? Who gets punished for breaking the rules of fair play? In Testing for Athlete Citizenship, Kathryn E. Henne, a former competitive athlete and an expert in the law and science of anti-doping regulations, examines the development of rules aimed at controlling performance enhancement in international sports. As international and celebrated figures, athletes are powerful symbols, yet few spectators realize that a global regulatory network is in place in an attempt to ensure ideals of fair play. The athletes caught and punished for doping are not always the ones using performance-enhancing drugs to cheat. In the case of female athletes, violations of fair play can stem from their inherent biological traits. Combining historical and ethnographic approaches, Testing for Athlete Citizenship offers a compelling account of the origins and expansion of anti-doping regulation and gender-verification rules. Drawing on research conducted in Australasia, Europe, and North America, Henne provides a detailed account of how race, gender, class, and postcolonial formations of power shape these ideas and regulatory practices. Testing for Athlete Citizenship makes a convincing case to rethink the power of regulation in sports and how it separates athletes as a distinct class of citizens subject to a unique set of rules because of their physical attributes and abilities. 410 0$aCritical issues in sport and society. 606 $aDoping in sports 606 $aAthletes$xDrug use 606 $aAthletes$xSexual behavior 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aDoping in sports. 615 0$aAthletes$xDrug use. 615 0$aAthletes$xSexual behavior. 676 $a362.29/088796 700 $aHenne$b Kathryn E.$f1982-$01050817 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910467468003321 996 $aTesting for athlete citizenship$92480933 997 $aUNINA LEADER 04309nam 22008175 450 001 996465861203316 005 20200703075333.0 010 $a1-280-38778-5 010 $a9786613565709 010 $a3-642-14215-X 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-642-14215-4 035 $a(CKB)2670000000028937 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000446416 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11285481 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000446416 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10497002 035 $a(PQKB)10096323 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-642-14215-4 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC3065497 035 $a(PPN)149072902 035 $a(EXLCZ)992670000000028937 100 $a20100702d2010 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurnn#008mamaa 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aDetection of Intrusions and Malware, and Vulnerability Assessment$b[electronic resource] $e7th International Conference, DIMVA 2010, Bonn, Germany, July 8-9, 2010, Proceedings /$fedited by Christian Kreibich, Marko Jahnke 205 $a1st ed. 2010. 210 1$aBerlin, Heidelberg :$cSpringer Berlin Heidelberg :$cImprint: Springer,$d2010. 215 $a1 online resource (XII, 219 p. 55 illus.) 225 1 $aSecurity and Cryptology ;$v6201 300 $aBibliographic Level Mode of Issuance: Monograph 311 $a3-642-14214-1 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 327 $aHost Security -- HookScout: Proactive Binary-Centric Hook Detection -- Conqueror: Tamper-Proof Code Execution on Legacy Systems -- dAnubis ?
