ICIAR is organized annually, and alternates between Europe and North America. ICIAR 2004 was held in Porto, Portugal. The idea of o?ering these conferences came as a result of discussion between researchers in Portugal and Canada to encourage collaboration and exchange, mainly between these two countries, but also with the open participation of other countries, addressing recent advances in theory, methodology and applications. TheresponsetothecallforpapersforICIAR2005wasencouraging.From295 full papers submitted, 153 were ?nally accepted (80 oral presentations, and 73 posters). The review process was carried out by the Program Committee m- bersandotherreviewers;allareexpertsinvariousimageanalysisandrecognition areas. Each paper was reviewed by at least two reviewers, and also checked by the conference co-chairs. The high quality of the papers in these proceedings is attributed ?rst to the authors, and second to the quality of the reviews provided by the experts. We would like to thank the authors for responding to our call, andwewholeheartedlythankthe reviewersfor theirexcellentwork, andfortheir timely response. It is this collective e?ort that resulted in the strong conference program and high-quality proceedings in your hands. 410 0$aImage Processing, Computer Vision, Pattern Recognition, and Graphics ;$v3656 606 $aPattern recognition 606 $aApplication software 606 $aOptical data processing 606 $aArtificial intelligence 606 $aComputer graphics 606 $aPattern Recognition$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I2203X 606 $aComputer Applications$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I23001 606 $aImage Processing and Computer Vision$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I22021 606 $aComputer Imaging, Vision, Pattern Recognition and Graphics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I22005 606 $aArtificial Intelligence$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I21000 606 $aComputer Graphics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I22013 615 0$aPattern recognition. 615 0$aApplication software. 615 0$aOptical data processing. 615 0$aArtificial intelligence. 615 0$aComputer graphics. 615 14$aPattern Recognition. 615 24$aComputer Applications. 615 24$aImage Processing and Computer Vision. 615 24$aComputer Imaging, Vision, Pattern Recognition and Graphics. 615 24$aArtificial Intelligence. 615 24$aComputer Graphics. 676 $a621.36/7 686 $a54.74$2bcl 702 $aKamel$b Mohamed$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aCampilho$b Aurélio$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996465835003316 996 $aImage Analysis and Recognition$9772474 997 $aUNISA
