It can serve as an introduction to the topics covered, including extrapolation methods, Padé approximation, orthogonal polynomials, continued fractions, Lanczos-type methods, etc.; it also provides in depth discussion of the many links between these subjects. A highlight of this book is the presentation of the human side of the fields discussed via personal testimonies from contemporary researchers, their anecdotes, and their exclusive remembrances of some of the ?actors.? This book shows how research in this domain started and evolved. Biographies of other scholars encountered have also been included. An important branch of mathematics is described in its historical context, opening the way to new developments. After a mathematical introduction, the book contains a precise description of the mathematical landscape of these fields spanning from the 19th century to the first part of the 20th. After an analysis of the works produced after that period (in particular those of Richardson, Aitken, Shanks, Wynn, and others), the most recent developments and applications are reviewed. Claude Brezinski is professor emeritus of mathematics at the University of Lille (France), where he has been head of the Laboratory of Numerical Analysis and Optimization for 30 years. He was the advisor of 60 doctoral students. Prof. Brezinski is founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Numerical Algorithms journal and author of over 240 papers and several books. Michela Redivo-Zaglia is professor of numerical analysis at the University of Padua (Italy). She has been vice-director of the Department of Mathematics for three years. She is a member of the Editorial Board of several journals. She published software packages, 7 scientific and didactic books, and about 80 papers. She was the organizer of many international congresses, and an invited speaker at several ones. 606 $aExtrapolation 615 0$aExtrapolation. 676 $a511.42 700 $aBrezinski$b Claude$f1941-$013908 702 $aRedivo Zaglia$b Michela 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bUtOrBLW 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996418190303316 996 $aExtrapolation and rational approximation$91982540 997 $aUNISA LEADER 01369nas 2200457- 450 001 9910317651803321 005 20230516213020.0 035 $a(DE-599)ZDB2663568-9 035 $a(OCoLC)746855435 035 $a(CKB)2940000000000307 035 $a(CONSER)--2018205218 035 $a(EXLCZ)992940000000000307 100 $a20110414a20119999 --- a 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur||||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aGlobal studies of childhood 210 1$aOxford, U.K. :$cSymposium Journals,$d[2011]- 210 31$a[London, UK] :$cSAGE 215 $a1 online resource 311 $a2043-6106 517 1 $aGSC 606 $aChild development$vPeriodicals 606 $aChildren$xResearch$vPeriodicals 606 $aEnfants$xDéveloppement$vPériodiques 606 $aChild development$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00854393 606 $aChildren$xResearch$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00855115 608 $aPeriodicals.$2fast 610 $aChild & Youth Development 615 0$aChild development 615 0$aChildren$xResearch 615 6$aEnfants$xDéveloppement 615 7$aChild development. 615 7$aChildren$xResearch. 676 $a305.23 906 $aJOURNAL 912 $a9910317651803321 996 $aGlobal studies of childhood$92249404 997 $aUNINA
