While many have seen the 1970's as simply a period of failures epitomized by Watergate, inflation, the oil crisis, global unrest, and disillusionment with military efforts in Vietnam, Thomas Borstelmann creates a new framework for understanding the period and its legacy. He demonstrates how the 1970's increased social inclusiveness and, at the same time, encouraged commitments to the free market and wariness of government. As a result, American culture and much of the rest of the world became more--and less--equal. Borstelmann explores how the 1970's forged the contours of contemporary America. Military, political, and economic crises undercut citizens' confidence in government. Free market enthusiasm led to lower taxes, a volunteer army, individual 401(k) retirement plans, free agency in sports, deregulated airlines, and expansions in gambling and pornography. At the same time, the movement for civil rights grew, promoting changes for women, gays, immigrants, and the disabled. And developments were not limited to the United States. Many countries gave up colonial and racial hierarchies to develop a new formal commitment to human rights, while economic deregulation spread to other parts of the world, from Chile and the United Kingdom to China. Placing a tempestuous political culture within a global perspective, The 1970's shows that the decade wrought irrevocable transformations upon American society and the broader world that continue to resonate today. 410 0$aAchtsamkeit - Bildung - Medien 606 $aAchtsamkeit; Meditation; Achtsamkeits- und Meditationsforschung; Meditationstagebu?cher; Selbst; Seele; Geist; Liebe; Herzensliebe; Mitgefu?hl; Intellekt; Intuition; Bildung; Universita?t; Hochschule; Paradigmenwechsel; Ko?rper; Leben; Philosophische Praxis; Lebenskunst; Bildungstheorie; Sozialpa?dagogik; Pa?dagogik; Ratgeber; Einfu?hrung; Awareness; Self; Soul; Mind; Love; Loving Kindness; Education; University; Paradigm Shift; Body; Life; Philosophical Counseling; Art of Living; Theory of Education; Social Pedagogy; Pedagogy; Guidebook; Introduction; 610 $aArt of Living. 610 $aBody. 610 $aEducation. 610 $aGuidebook. 610 $aIntroduction. 610 $aLife. 610 $aLove. 610 $aLoving Kindness. 610 $aMeditation. 610 $aMind. 610 $aParadigm Shift. 610 $aPedagogy. 610 $aPhilosophical Counseling. 610 $aSelf. 610 $aSocial Pedagogy. 610 $aSoul. 610 $aTheory of Education. 610 $aUniversity. 615 4$aAchtsamkeit; Meditation; Achtsamkeits- und Meditationsforschung; Meditationstagebu?cher; Selbst; Seele; Geist; Liebe; Herzensliebe; Mitgefu?hl; Intellekt; Intuition; Bildung; Universita?t; Hochschule; Paradigmenwechsel; Ko?rper; Leben; Philosophische Praxis; Lebenskunst; Bildungstheorie; Sozialpa?dagogik; Pa?dagogik; Ratgeber; Einfu?hrung; Awareness; Self; Soul; Mind; Love; Loving Kindness; Education; University; Paradigm Shift; Body; Life; Philosophical Counseling; Art of Living; Theory of Education; Social Pedagogy; Pedagogy; Guidebook; Introduction; 700 $ade Bruin$b Andreas$4aut$0897684 712 02$aVerein für Achtsamkeit in Osterloh e.V.$4fnd$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/fnd 801 0$bDE-B1597 801 1$bDE-B1597 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996411334603316 996 $aAchtsamkeit und Meditation im Hochschulkontext$92005566 997 $aUNISA
