The first question concerns the meaning of "existence" and the second concerns the meaning of "God". Regarding the first question, this book motivates, presents and defends the meta-ontology found in Gottlob Frege's writings and defended by Michael Dummett, Crispin Wright and Bob Hale. Frege's approach to questions of existence has mainly found use in connection with abstract objects such as numbers. This is one of the first studies to systematically present Fregean meta-ontology and apply it to theology. Frege's meta-ontology is informed by his context principle. According to this, logico-syntactic notions such as "singular term" and "predicate" are pivotal to questions of what exists. These notions serve to throw light on the second question. Through thorough engagement with Old as well and New Testament texts, the book shows how Frege's logico-syntactic notions are of crucial importance when seeking to understand the meaning and use of "God". To complete the defence of Fregean meta-ontology, the book concludes by pointing to important differences between the otherwise closely associated concepts of an object found in Wittgenstein's Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus and Frege's writings. 410 0$aQuellen und Studien zur Philosophie ;$vBd. 98. 606 $aGod (Christianity) 606 $aOntology 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aGod (Christianity) 615 0$aOntology. 676 $a231/.042 686 $aCG 3397$2rvk 700 $aHansen$b Stig Børsen$01034879 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910456255703321 996 $aThe existence of God$92454269 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01741nam 2200385Ia 450 001 996394332603316 005 20200824121844.0 035 $a(CKB)4940000000114540 035 $a(EEBO)2240931167 035 $a(UnM)99895327e 035 $a(UnM)99895327 035 $a(EXLCZ)994940000000114540 100 $a19980903d1669 uy | 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurbn||||a|bb| 200 10$aLazarillo, or, the excellent history of Lazarillo de Tormes, the witty Spaniard$b[electronic resource] $eBoth parts.
