Both handbooks, dating to the Roman period, contain an assortment of recipes for magical rites in the Demotic and Greek language. The library which comprises these two handbooks is nowadays better known as the Theban Magical Library. The book traces the social and cultural milieu of the composers, compilers and users of the extant spells through a combination of philology, sociolinguistics and cultural analysis. To anybody working on Greco-Roman Egypt, ancient magic, and bilingualism this study is of significant importance. 410 0$aReligions in the Graeco-Roman world ;$vv. 153. 606 $aMagic$zEgypt 606 $aRites and ceremonies$zEgypt 606 $aBilingualism$zEgypt$xHistory$yTo 1500 606 $aEgyptian language$vPapyri, Demotic 606 $aManuscripts, Greek (Papyri)$zEgypt 607 $aEgypt$xCivilization$y332 B.C.-638 A.D 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aMagic 615 0$aRites and ceremonies 615 0$aBilingualism$xHistory 615 0$aEgyptian language 615 0$aManuscripts, Greek (Papyri) 676 $a133.4/3/0932 700 $aDieleman$b Jacco$0866337 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910451038303321 996 $aPriests, tongues, and rites$91933461 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01540nam 2200373 n 450 001 996388073803316 005 20221108014240.0 035 $a(CKB)1000000000625867 035 $a(EEBO)2240911871 035 $a(UnM)99865949 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000625867 100 $a19940311d1647 uh | 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurbn||||a|bb| 200 12$aA declaration of the Lords in Parliament assembled$b[electronic resource] $econcerning the committee sitting at Goldsmiths Hall for composition of delinquents estates.
