Focusing on the Gaelic community in Scotland and the Sorbs of Lusatia, this study illuminates core assumptions and rationales in relation to minority language revitalisation ideologies in Scotland and Germany and shows how they have been affected by assimilation processes arising from modernisation and globalisation. A thorough review of relevant theoretical debates is followed by a presentation of historical contexts and a detailed analysis of contemporary discourses about bilingualism, cultural difference and ethno-cultural belonging within the Gaelic and Sorbian communities. Drawing on more than 100 interviews, a questionnaire survey and a wide range of comments by Gaelic and Sorbian speakers in the media, the author identifies current ideological faultlines in Gaelic and Sorbian activist circles and argues that minority language planners must critically engage with competing theoretical paradigms if revitalisation efforts are to be successful. 410 0$aLinguistic diversity and language rights ;$v3. 606 $aLinguistic minorities$zEurope 606 $aNationalism$zEurope 606 $aLanguage and culture$zEurope 606 $aThought and thinking 606 $aScottish Gaelic language$xHistory 606 $aSorbian languages$xHistory 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aLinguistic minorities 615 0$aNationalism 615 0$aLanguage and culture 615 0$aThought and thinking. 615 0$aScottish Gaelic language$xHistory. 615 0$aSorbian languages$xHistory. 676 $a305.7094 700 $aGlaser$b Konstanze$f1968-$01028533 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910450998603321 996 $aMinority languages and cultural diversity in Europe$92444566 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01593nam 2200421Ia 450 001 996386400403316 005 20200824132914.0 035 $a(CKB)4940000000081402 035 $a(EEBO)2240896825 035 $a(OCoLC)ocm13959041e 035 $a(OCoLC)13959041 035 $a(EXLCZ)994940000000081402 100 $a19860728d1700 uy | 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurbn||||a|bb| 200 10$aSpeculum uranicum, or, An almanack and prognostication for the year of our Lord God 1700$b[electronic resource] $ebeing the the [sic] bissextile or leap year ... calculated according to art and referred to the horizon of the famous city of London ... and may serve without sensible errour the whole kingdom of England /$fby Thomas Fowle .. 210 $aLondon $cPrinted by Robert Everingham for the Company of Stationers$d1700 215 $a[40] p. $cill 300 $aSecond part has special t.p. 300 $aImperfect: pages stained, with print show-through and loss of print. 300 $aReproduction of original in the Bodleian Library. 330 $aeebo-0014 606 $aAlmanacs, English 606 $aEphemerides 606 $aAstrology$vEarly works to 1800 615 0$aAlmanacs, English. 615 0$aEphemerides. 615 0$aAstrology 700 $aFowle$b Thomas$0792381 801 0$bEAF 801 1$bEAF 801 2$bm/c 801 2$bEAF 801 2$bWaOLN 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996386400403316 996 $aSpeculum uranicum, or, An almanack and prognostication for the year of our Lord God 1700$92303354 997 $aUNISA
