SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS""; ""References"" 330 3 $aAgainst the background of the theory of optimum currency areas, the paper analyzes possible sequences for establishing a currency union (CU) in the Middle East and Central Asia region. Between the corner solutions of independent currencies for all countries in the region and a CU comprising all countries, a large number of combinations of member countries in the CU is possible. The analysis aims to determine the composition of potential CUs as a function of the country initiating the CU, an exogenously determined number of currencies in the region, and the weight attached to the particular selection criteria. Within this framework, the study seeks to establish whether some countries are consistently selected at early stages of the process, while others join only at later stages. 410 0$aIMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;$vNo. 2006/226 606 $aMoney$zMiddle East 606 $aMoney$zAsia, Central 606 $aExports and Imports$2imf 606 $aForeign Exchange$2imf 606 $aInflation$2imf 606 $aMoney and Monetary Policy$2imf 606 $aInternational Monetary Arrangements and Institutions$2imf 606 $aFinancial Aspects of Economic Integration$2imf 606 $aEconomic History: Macroeconomics$2imf 606 $aGrowth and Fluctuations: Asia including Middle East$2imf 606 $aMonetary Systems$2imf 606 $aStandards$2imf 606 $aRegimes$2imf 606 $aGovernment and the Monetary System$2imf 606 $aPayment Systems$2imf 606 $aPrice Level$2imf 606 $aDeflation$2imf 606 $aTrade: General$2imf 606 $aMonetary economics$2imf 606 $aInternational economics$2imf 606 $aMacroeconomics$2imf 606 $aCurrency$2imf 606 $aForeign exchange$2imf 606 $aCurrencies$2imf 606 $aMonetary unions$2imf 606 $aExchange rates$2imf 606 $aExports$2imf 606 $aMoney$2imf 606 $aEconomic integration$2imf 606 $aPrices$2imf 606 $aInternational trade$2imf 607 $aUnited Arab Emirates$2imf 615 0$aMoney 615 0$aMoney 615 7$aExports and Imports 615 7$aForeign Exchange 615 7$aInflation 615 7$aMoney and Monetary Policy 615 7$aInternational Monetary Arrangements and Institutions 615 7$aFinancial Aspects of Economic Integration 615 7$aEconomic History: Macroeconomics 615 7$aGrowth and Fluctuations: Asia including Middle East 615 7$aMonetary Systems 615 7$aStandards 615 7$aRegimes 615 7$aGovernment and the Monetary System 615 7$aPayment Systems 615 7$aPrice Level 615 7$aDeflation 615 7$aTrade: General 615 7$aMonetary economics 615 7$aInternational economics 615 7$aMacroeconomics 615 7$aCurrency 615 7$aForeign exchange 615 7$aCurrencies 615 7$aMonetary unions 615 7$aExchange rates 615 7$aExports 615 7$aMoney 615 7$aEconomic integration 615 7$aPrices 615 7$aInternational trade 700 $aElborgh-Woytek$b Katrin$01546578 701 $aBerengaut$b Julian$01546579 712 02$aInternational Monetary Fund.$bMiddle East and Central Asia Dept. 801 0$bDcWaIMF 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910788414003321 996 $aBeauty Queens and Wallflowers$93802276 997 $aUNINA
